Communism tour

What does liberty mean to you? Have you ever heard of ‘Goulash Communism’ and that Hungary  was allegedly the ‘happiest barrack in the Communist camp’ despite all the madness of the Stalinist era? When and where did it all begin? How did it unfold? How was it different from other countries behind the curtain? These and your questions can be answered while we  wander around the downtown of Pest. We have all experienced the Communist era, as have our families and can give you a more personal perspective.

Itinerary: We'll take you to the Liberty Square, which is also termed the 'Chessboard of world politics' with its monuments devoted to the various upheavals. Among others it is the site of the only remaining Soviet Army Memorial in Budapest. We'll take you to an authentic "Commi" café in Pest, where its retro furnishing have preserved what people liked the most about the era. We’ll talk about the Hungarian people's heroic 1956 uprising against the Communist dictatorship next to the Parliament building. There we'll show you around monuments commemorating the revolution, and a very special exhibition dedicated to its heroes. We take you to the neighborhood of the House of Terror Museum, where you’ll get some insight regarding the activity of the Hungarian KGB.*

*Please note that during this tour we do not enter the House of Terror Museum
